Meet, Brush, and Snap a Photo with a Highland Cow at Snack Town Street Fair

Hanover, PA — Have you ever wanted to meet and brush a fluffy Highland cow? Now is your chance.
Sheppard Farm on Apple Hill is bringing a unique, family-friendly experience to Snack Town Street Fair. Visitors can meet and brush a Highland cow on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 108 East Chestnut Street, the park located across from the Post Office in downtown Hanover.
Tickets will be available on-site for $10 per person and may be purchased with cash or card. Participants must be age 5 or older, wear closed-toe shoes, and have a signed waiver completed at the time of ticket purchase.
All proceeds from the Highland cow experience will benefit Christmas in Hanover, one of downtown Hanover’s most beloved annual traditions, presented by Main Street Hanover. Guests will also have the opportunity to contribute to a Pay-It-Forward Donation Box, helping others enjoy the experience regardless of their financial circumstances.
“We are so lucky to have such an incredible partner and sponsor in Sheppard Farm on Apple Hill,” said Moriah Tyler, Executive Director of Main Street Hanover. “Working with Heather is a tremendous asset to our organization. Her passion for our community and dedication to Christmas in Hanover help make many of our downtown traditions possible, and we’re excited to bring this fun and memorable experience to families during Snack Town Street Fair.”
Sheppard Farm on Apple Hill has been raising registered Scottish Highland cattle since 1976. Founded by Peter H. Sheppard, the farm began with six cows and one bull and has grown into one of the region’s most respected Highland cattle operations, producing more than 560 registered animals over the years.
Today, the farm’s herd consists of approximately 180 animals, including cows, calves, heifers, steers, and bulls. In 2008, Peter’s daughter, Heather Sheppard Lunn, expanded the family operation by launching direct-to-consumer grass-fed beef sales. Now entering its third generation of Highland cattle producers, the family continues its commitment to preserving the traditional Scottish Highland breed through conscientious breeding and education.
Beyond her work at the farm, Heather serves as a valued member of the Christmas in Hanover Committee, helping coordinate many of downtown’s holiday traditions each year, including the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Christmas Parade.
“When you meet these animals, you immediately understand why people fall in love with them,” said Heather Sheppard Lunn. “We’re excited to share a little piece of farm life with the Hanover community while supporting Christmas in Hanover.”
