Main Street Hanover and the Christmas in Hanover Committee Announce 2026 Volunteer of the Year: Chris Bunty
Hanover, PA – Main Street Hanover and the Christmas in Hanover Committee are proud to announce Chris Bunty as the 2026 recipient of the Andrea Niehoff Goodson Volunteer of the Year Award. This annual award honors individuals who embody the spirit of community, dedication, and holiday cheer that Andrea so passionately brought to Hanover throughout her life.
Chris’s commitment to giving back to the community spans decades. His journey began as a teenager, mowing lawns for neighbors, before joining the fire department as a volunteer at age 17 or 18, where he served for 20 years. His passion for helping others eventually led him to volunteer with the Hanover Rhinos football team, where an interest in organizing a toy drive connected him with Toys for Tots-Adams-Hanover.
That connection grew into a 16-year commitment to Toys for Tots, including the past six years serving as a coordinator. Under Chris’s leadership and dedication, the organization’s efforts extend far beyond collecting toys. Throughout the year, he helps spearhead numerous fundraisers, including a Bingo Bash, sub sales, Easter Basket Raffle, Sportsman Raffle, Crab Feed, and Christmas in July Cash Calendar.
Chris also supports local children through Andrea’s Kids, collecting backpacks and school supplies for students in need. His commitment to continuing Andrea Niehoff Goodson’s tradition of quietly helping others is a reflection of the very spirit this award was created to honor.
Main Street Hanover Marketing and Administrative Coordinator Alex Brown recently sat down with Chris to learn more about his journey as a volunteer and what motivates his continued service to the community. When asked about his favorite memory of volunteering, Chris pointed to toy distribution day. When asked about his favorite memory of volunteering, Chris pointed to toy distribution day.
“Definitely seeing the families come in on toy distribution day. Knowing that the kids get to have a good Christmas is important to me,” Chris shared.
For Chris, the motivation is personal. “When I was a child, I was in their shoes, so it’s nice to be able to brighten their holiday.”
Despite the countless hours he gives to the community, Chris is quick to emphasize that volunteering is never a one-person effort.
“I feel truly honored,” Chris said about receiving the award. “But I will say it takes a village to accomplish what we accomplish. I’m just an aspect of a bigger idea. I always try to make a difference to the best of my ability.”
“Chris represents exactly what the Andrea Niehoff Goodson Volunteer of the Year Award is meant to celebrate,” said Moriah Tyler, Executive Director of Main Street Hanover. “He gives his time generously, works behind the scenes, and is committed to making the holidays brighter for local families. His dedication to Toys for Tots, Andrea’s Kids, and so many other community efforts demonstrates the lasting impact that one person can have when they simply chooses to give their time and energy to helping others.”
As the 2026 recipient, Chris will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Christmas in Hanover Parade on Saturday, November 28, 2026, and will be formally recognized during the Christmas in Hanover Tree Lighting Ceremony.
When asked what he is most excited about as Grand Marshal, Chris said, “Well, I’ve never been Grand Marshal before! I’m so excited that the parade will be on a Saturday. I think more people will be out and about and it’ll help spread the Christmas spirit. I just feel honored.”
Chris encourages anyone considering volunteering in the community to find a cause they believe in and give it their all.
“I would tell them to be an advocate of what they want to volunteer for. Look into volunteering opportunities and give it your all.”
Main Street Hanover and the Christmas in Hanover Committee extend heartfelt congratulations to Chris Bunty for his years of service, his commitment to local families, and his dedication to carrying forward the spirit of giving that makes Hanover’s holiday season so special.
