Job Location: 415 Zarfoss Drive, York PA 17404
Four Day work week
Work Schedule: New Hire will most likely get either 8 PM-6:30 AM or 12 Noon - 10:30 PM repeating, consistent weekly shift (depends on bid assignment). Work days and times could change when bid assignments are rebid, so must have open availability as our Maintenance Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
EXCELLENT benefits will start 1st of the month following date of hire and you'll get paid weekly! Also includes Simplified Defined Contribution Pension.
Mechanic Class A: $31.00/hr with $825. tool allowance annually
Mechanic Class B: $28.50/hr with $825. tool allowance annually
Mechanic Class C: $23.00/hr with $475. tool allowance annually
Plus shift differential of $.25/hr on 2nd shift or $.35/hr on 3rd shift
Job Summary (Role in organization):
This position is responsible for performing general servicing, preventative maintenance, diagnosing and troubleshooting, evaluating cost of equipment repair and performing both minor and major repairs to maintain all fleet vehicles in good working order. Position also requires working along with other mechanics in major repairs and overhauls. Also performs state safety inspections as required by Penn DOT and ensures CPTA is in compliance with state and federal regulations. Provides functional training and assistance to employees in lower level classifications. Receives complaints and requests for equipment service and makes evaluations; makes road calls to service disabled vehicles; and coordinates and prioritizes Authority work orders with other class Technicians and the Operations Department as directed by management. Maintains a safe and organized work environment; completes all necessary record-keeping and report preparation. The mechanic is responsible for meeting all attendance requirements according to bid, CBA, policy, and safety emergency response situations. CPTA is the County Emergency responder. Performs other duties as assigned. Basis of classification will be on panel interview and skills testing.

This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
Some of the Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair principles, procedures, methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of equipment and specialized tools
- Knowledge of medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicle preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of equipment repair cost estimation.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Ability to train others in maintenance technician job tasks.
- Ability to diagnose and repair medium-duty and heavy duty vehicles; demonstrated problem solving skills and complete assignments.
- Ability to work independently and with other mechanics as job task requires.
- Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours and be available for work/overtime in accordance with bid, CBA, policy, and response to emergency situations.
- Ability to follow and communicate both verbally and written in English. Ability to read and interpret service and instruction manuals.
- Ability to adhere to DOT and FTA regulations concerning operation of CPTA vehicles, adhere to local traffic regulations, and adherence to safety sensitive position.
- Ability to use and operate proficiently computerized maintenance data systems and computerized maintenance diagnostic software.
- Ability to complete record-keeping and written reports.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of safe practices and the ability to safely operate fleet vehicles and maintenance equipment.
- Must have regular attendance and punctuality.
- Must possess own hand tools.
- Must meet hiring qualifications including but not limited to, minimum of 18 years of age with additional criteria, acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with CPTA standards.
Experience, Certificates and Licenses Required:
Mechanic Class A
- Six years of verifiable, full time experience as a maintenance technician diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Up to one year of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of vocational education. Must have a minimum of one year maintenance experience on transit vehicles.
- Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License class "B" operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage. (This paid training is offered if do not have.)
- Must possess a valid DOT medical card.
- This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
- ASE certification in H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 suspension and Steering, H6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, H7 Heating, Ventilation, and A/C. Must possess all six certifications.
- Must possess a minimum Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License.
- Must possess AC 609 certification
Mechanic Class B
- Four years of verifiable, full time experience as a maintenance technician diagnosing malfunctions, and repairing medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Up to one year of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of vocational education.

- Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License class "B" operator's license with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted that is not under suspension or revocation, and possess current automobile insurance coverage. (If hired, this paid training is offered.)
- Must possess a valid DOT medical card.
- This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
- Must complete two (2) ASE certifications within one year after probation period in H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 suspension and Steering, H6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, H7 Heating, Ventilation, and A/C.
- Must possess a valid Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License. (Must obtain within first year of employment if does not have)
