Prelude to the Holocaust at Guthrie Memorial Library
Instructor Deb Smith explores life in Germany before 1933 and the factors that led to the Holocaust. This course will cover the period from the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) up to the start of WWII in 1938. Topics covered include the appointment of Adolph Hitler as German chancellor; the establishment of the first concentration camps; and the effects of regulations that restricted public and private life for Jews. This is a 4-part class that will take place September 9, 12, 16, & 19, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm. There is a $20 registration fee for the class (includes all 4 sessions). Registration can be done either online at yorklibraries.org/hanover-guthrie, by phone (717-632-5183) or at the Adult Desk by Tuesday, September 3. Recommended for ages 16 years and older. Book required for the class: The World Must Know by Michael Berenbaum, available on Amazon for $17.99. (She will be offering part 2 of this class in the beginning of 2020, same book will be required) Deb Smith is a retired teacher from the Hanover Public School District and holds a masters degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
