Book Signing: Letters From Home: York County, Pennsylvania during the Civil War
The York County Heritage Trust will host author Ronald Hershner, attorney and Managing Partner of Stock and Leader, LLP, for the launch of his book Letters From Home: York County, Pennsylvania during the Civil War on June 19, 2013, in the Meeting Hall of the Historical Society Museum at 7 p.m.
Letters from Home offers a rare personal insight into the Civil War homefront through 23 letters written to Harvey Anderson from his York County family between 1863 to 1865. The collection of letters was eventually passed on to Harvey’s granddaughter, Burneta Wiley Hershner. It was during a visit to Burneta’s home that author Ron Hershner, her great nephew, caught his first glimpse of these unique letters.
“It is a story of a family coping with the distance that divided them from each other,” Hershner says, “And it is a view into the ardently held and fiercely advocated opinions about the war that divided the southern York County community.”
In addition to the book’s launch, the York County Heritage Trust will debut its new exhibit The Fiery Trial: York County’s Civil War Experience, on June 29, 2013. The exhibit will highlight the role of York County and the South Central Pennsylvania Region in the Civil War and will be open from June 2013 through the end of 2014.
Mr. Hershner is available for speaking engagements upon request. The book is available for purchase at the York County Heritage Trust Museum Bookstore.
