Barefoot in the Park

Hanover Little Theatre will open its 66th season with a Neil Simon classic, bringing a slice of New York in the early 1960s to central Pennsylvania with a production of ?Barefoot in the Park.? ?Performance dates are September 12-13 and 18-20 at 8 p.m. and September 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. Opening night will feature a post-show reception to give patrons a chance to meet the cast. Tickets are $12 with a $1 discount available for students and seniors. Group discounts are also available. Tickets are available at hanoverlittletheatre.com or by calling 717-637-5297. Originally produced in 1963 with a cast including Robert Redford, the play takes a look at the rocky early days for a young couple in the city. Corie and Paul Bratter adjust to life in a fifth-floor walkup with an eccentric neighbor and unannounced visits from Corie?s mother. Conventional Paul gets frustrated with Corie, who yearns for her husband to relax and consider running ?barefoot in the park.? The young couple learn about the ups and downs of city life in the afterglow of their honeymoon. Robert Brown directs a talented cast largely made up of HLT veterans. Jeremy Slagle, last seen at the theatre as Sky masterson in ?Guys and Dolls,? plays Paul opposite Anna Heckert as Corie. Heckert has appeared in several recent HLT plays since playing Sarah Brown alongside Slagle in ?Guys and Dolls.? Beau Bowden returns to the HLT stage as eccentric neighbor Victor Velasco, and Heidi Hormel appears as Mrs. Banks, Corie?s mother. Raymond Schneider makes his HLT debut as the telephone repairman. HLT is Hanover?s only all-volunteer community theatre. All shows take place at the playhouse located at 360 Blooming Grove Road, Hanover.
