Superhero Day Celebrates Young Patients and Pediatric Providers at UPMC Children’s in Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 5, 2026) – UPMC and UPMC Pinnacle Foundation celebrated Superhero Day today, to honor the world-class pediatric health care providers at UPMC Children's in Harrisburg.
Superhero Day honors health care superheroes and engages the youngest patients in fun activities while providing invaluable resources to those in need. The celebration included photo opportunities, goodie bags filled with surprises and a heartwarming unit parade that brought joy to everyone involved. Patients also received superhero-themed coloring pages created by students from the Conestoga Valley School District.
Players from the Harrisburg Senators joined the fun, helping create memorable moments for pediatric patients throughout the day. Also in attendance were Christie and Jane Frances, volunteer services therapy pets, who looked adorable in their superhero costumes and Pete Hayden of PlayGowns.
“Hospital visits can be overwhelming for children, which is why we focus on bringing comfort, joy and a sense of normalcy when we can,” said Matt Connors, director of development at the UPMC Pinnacle Foundation. “It’s also an opportunity to honor the caregivers who support and care for children each day.”
Contributions to the UPMC Pinnacle Foundation Child Life Fun directly helps pediatric patients receive life-changing medical care they might not otherwise afford, from specialized treatments to therapeutic equipment and transportation support. From the strong patients facing illnesses and injuries, and passionate parent advocates, to its compassionate staff and world-class innovators, UPMC is excited to honor all superheroes.
