Curb / Sidewalk Project Underway on East Hanover Street in Hanover, Pa

Hanover, Pa. –The East Hanover Street Sidewalk and Curb Replacement Project is now underway. Funded through a York County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and contracted to Doug Lamb Construction, Inc., the project will replace sections of deficient curb and sidewalk along East Hanover Street from York Street to Baltimore Street. As required by the grant, a public meeting was held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, to provide information about the project, and adjacent property owners and businesses were notified prior to the start of construction.

The project includes the removal of deteriorated sidewalks and curbs and their replacement with new heavy-duty materials. Improvements are designed to reduce water pooling near adjacent properties while directing stormwater to the street and curb. The design also accommodates and incorporates ADA accessibility improvements as needed. Due to funding limitations, not all sections of East Hanover Street can be included in the project. The most severe sections of cracking and broken curbing and sidewalk were targeted.

During construction, temporary parking is available in the Hanover Elementary School parking lot at 101 E. Hanover Street, accessible from Eagle Avenue. Residents, pedestrians, and motorists should expect temporary traffic pattern changes and are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible to reduce congestion. Construction is expected to be completed before the start of the 2026-2027 school year (mid-August).

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is awarded on a three-year cycle and supports projects that improve infrastructure, reduce blight, and enhance public welfare for municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and eligible homeowners. The East Hanover Street project reflects that mission by improving pedestrian safety and enhancing the Borough's streetscape.
