Borough of Hanover Announces Evening of the Equinox Event

HANOVER, PA — The Borough of Hanover Department of Parks, Recreation and Library Services is pleased to announce Evening of the Equinox, a special fundraiser benefiting Guthrie Memorial Library—Hanover’s Public Library. The event will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the historic Warehime-Myers Mansion, 305 Baltimore Street, Hanover.

Guests are invited to celebrate the Autumn Equinox with an elegant evening of music, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and conversation with fellow library supporters, all while helping support the continued success of Guthrie Memorial Library.

The Autumn Equinox marks the time of year when day and night are of nearly equal length, making it a fitting occasion to gather, celebrate community and look ahead to the season to come.

A highlight of the evening will be a presentation by local author Audrey Clare Farley, who will serve as the event’s special guest speaker. Farley is an author, editor and scholar specializing in twentieth-century American culture, science and religion. She is the author of two acclaimed nonfiction books, The Unfit Heiress: The Tragic Life and Scandalous Sterilization of Ann Cooper Hewitt and Girls and Their Monsters: The Genain Quadruplets and the Making of Madness in America. Her essays and cultural criticism have appeared in publications including The Atlantic, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Farley earned her Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, and currently resides in Hanover. Guests may arrive early at 5:00 p.m. for a private book signing with Audrey Clare Farley before the evening’s festivities begin.

The event will take place at the magnificent Warehime-Myers Mansion, a 1913 Neo-Classical landmark and one of Hanover’s cultural treasures. With its elegant architecture, historic furnishings, Greek Key details in the oak floors, original basement bowling alley, fountain, gazebo, and distinctive lions adorning the grounds, the mansion provides a memorable setting for this special evening.

Tickets are $55 per person, with all proceeds directly benefiting Guthrie Memorial Library. Funds raised will support library services, programs and continued development, helping the library fulfill its mission of serving the Hanover community.

Evening of the Equinox is made possible with the generous support of our sponsors: Brightspeed, Hanover Auto Group, and Home Association of McSherrystown. The Borough of Hanover appreciates their commitment to supporting Guthrie Memorial Library and the community.
