"An Afternoon Tea, Steeped in History"

Come join us at “Downton Abbey,” the theme this year for the New Oxford Area Historical Society’s fourth annual tea. This fundraiser is sure to satisfy your appetite as well as your taste for history. Place settings of antique china, crystal, and silver will grace the tables. Our parlor maids will be serving you in their neat and tidy white crisp bib aprons and the butlers in their best attire, including the bow tie! The full menu consists of tender scones, served with Devonshire cream and rich curd, delicious soup, four different elegant tea sandwiches, a variety of scrumptious desserts, and a selection of delightful teas. There will be two seatings: one at 11:00 and the second at 2:00.
At 1:15pm, Judy Larkin, known as the Tea Lady, dressed as a parlor maid with her best cap and starched apron, will show, not just tell, why tea was an integral part of life for the working class. In her program, Tea with the Parlor Maid, she will explain how even though the parlor maids may not have enjoyed tea in silver teapots, the "below stairs" party with music hall songs and colorful expressions provided plenty of opportunities for merriment. Get a glimpse of real "high tea" as well as lively escapades the parlor may have enjoyed when not on duty! Check out Judy’s website: www.larkintea.com

There will also be a beautiful display of period-style clothing, and lovely accessories that the wealthy Edwardian era woman would have had in her possession.

Tickets will be available after May 6th at Forget-Me-Not Framing, 308 Lincoln Way West, and Martin’s Hardware, on the Square through July 6th or call Elaine @ 717-624-6240 for further information. All of the proceeds go to the NOAHS for future preservation projects. Seating is limited and tickets will not be sold at the door, so be sure to get yours today!
