7th DEA "TAKE BACK? medicine collection.

Local and state police are partnering with Collaborating For Youth, local fire departments, government and environmental agencies, area health organizations, and the York/Adams Pharmaceuticals Stewardship Alliance will carry out the seventh Adams County "TAKE BACK” medicine collection.  DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) sponsored medication collections provide opportunities for Adams County and Hanover Area residents to dispose of unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications safely and free of charge.

Collection sites will accept pills, liquids, creams, and pill bubble-packs (sorry – no needles or sharps).  NEW this time: the Adams County sites will be accepting pet meds using the same criteria for human medications (listed above).
Collections sites are as follows:

  1. Gettysburg Area Recreation Park (545 Long Lane, Gettysburg)  – hosted by                               the Gettysburg Borough and Cumberland Township Police Departments
  2. Alpha Fire Co. #1 (40 East King Street, Littlestown)  – hosted by the Littlestown                           Borough Police Department
  1. Bermudian Springs School Complex (7335 Carlisle Pike, York Springs)  –                                 hosted by the Latimore Township Police Department
  2. Biglerville Hose and Truck Co. #1 (111 South Main Street, Biglerville)  –                                                 hosted by the Pennsylvania State Police
  3. Eastern Adams Regional Police NEW Station Location (110 North Berlin
Avenue, New Oxford) – hosted by the Eastern Adams Regional Police       Department
  1. Fairfield Fire & EMS Department (106 Steelman Street, Fairfield) – hosted by                             the Carroll Valley Borough Police and Liberty Township Police Departments
  2. Hanover Giant Pharmacies (455 Eisenhower Drive and at 801 Baltimore Street)                        - supported by York/Adams Pharmaceuticals Stewardship Alliance.

Adams County Medication TAKE BACK is part of a national effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to decrease the abuse of prescription drugs by decreasing their availability – particularly to youth.  In addition, safely disposing of prescription drugs and unused OTC medications helps reduce the damage to groundwater and the environment.
Adams County’s medication collection and disposal is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration, in partnership with local and State police, local fire departments, Collaborating For Youth, the Adams County Department of Environmental Services, and the York/Adams Pharmaceuticals Stewardship Alliance.  Support comes from the Adams County Conservation District, the Adams County Office For Aging, Inc., Wellspan Health, Healthy Adams County, the Builders Association of Adams County, and area pharmacies, businesses, and municipalities.
For more information regarding the Adams County TAKE BACK or for any changes in collection sites, please contact Eileen Grenell at Collaborating For Youth, 717-338-0300 x 24, or drugfree@cfygettysburg.com.
