50 Years in Hanover
The Hanover Area Arts Guild is kicking off its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration with a special exhibit this January.
The show featuring paintings and photos depicting “50” or “Hanover.” It continues through Feb. 3 at Art Downtown, the gallery of the Arts Guild, 32 Carlisle St., in downtown Hanover.
The exhibit can be seen during regular gallery hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday. As always, the gallery is free.
The Arts Guild was formed in 1968 by a handful of artisans in Hanover and now owns a gallery on Carlisle Street, just steps off the Square. In addition to monthly shows, the Arts Guild also offers classes, maintains a library of arts books and is active on social media. Annually, the Arts Guild awards a scholarship to an artist graduating from high school who wants to continue in an arts field.
Among the larger shows at the gallery are the Open Show, which encourages Arts Guild members as well as the community to compete for monetary prizes in the spring; the Annual School Art Show, now in its 37th year; and the Fall Show, showcasing new work by members since the inception of the Arts Guild.
